Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group (Australia) (A&K Aust) is a luxury tour operator based in Melbourne and operates luxury tours throughout Australia and New Zealand.

A&K Aust operates three key programs:

• Akorn’s Cruise Division (Akorn) is a specialised division of the Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group serving cruise lines worldwide on luxury, premium and contemporary levels, specialising in half and full day shore excursions, overnights, and overlands, pre and post cruise packages, private arrangements, and turnaround movements. 
• Akorn also has a Destination Management Company (Akorn DMC) arm that are involved in arranging and co-ordinating vacations for organisations under the specific company branding. 
• A&K Destination Management Company (A&K DMC) is a separate division of Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group involved in arranging Groups Tours, Free Independent Traveler (FIT) Journeys and ad hoc customised touring.

The Role - what are we looking for

We are seeking to recruit additional Tour Guides that are interested in – casual work for the:

• Akorn – for the forthcoming cruise season
• A&K DMC business.

We are currently seeking exceptional people to become Tour Guides or that are current Tour Guides looking for additional work. 

The roles do not require individuals with specific experience, training will be provided; however, you will need exemplary customer service and organisational skills, be a good communicator, be able to work under pressure and in an autonomous role, be enthusiastic about showing International visitors your hometown and have good availability.  As an example, individuals that have previously worked as teachers, in hospitality, public relations, customer service roles or the travel industry make suitable candidates. 

Akorn Cruise Ship Division 

Are seeking to recruit additional casual Tour Guides employed on a need’s basis for the upcoming Cruise Ship season commencing in November 2024. This involves escorting cruise ship guests on day tours docked at various ports around Australia.

Everybody who accepts a role at the Ports must be prepared to do the Maritime Certification online course.

We are looking for guides in the following locations:

Melbourne, Phillip Island, Adelaide, Batemans Bay, Cairns and Port Douglas, Darwin, Eden, Newcastle, Burnie, Sydney, Albany, Busselton and Bunbury, Geraldton, Fremantle.

A&K DMC 

Are seeking to recruit additional casual Tour Guides to undertake the following work:

• Airport Meet & Greet.
• Departure assistance.
• Day tours

We are looking for guides in the following locations:

Melbourne, Sydney,  Canberra, Adelaide, Newcastle, Hobart, Burnie, Perth, Albany, Cairns, Brisbane, Port Douglas, Darwin.

Selection Criteria - What you need for this role

• Previous experience as a tour guide (would be an advantage however is not essential)       
• Prior experience in tourism and/or customer service is highly valued.
• Ability to learn scripts or research material to provide exemplary and accurate information to visitors.
• Excellent presentation skills, communication skills and the ability to speak in front of crowds including on a microphone.
• A warm and friendly personality with a passion for excellent customer service.
• Professional and reliable
• Enthusiastic
• The ability to meet varying roster commitments.
• Appropriate working rights
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Team player
• Good level of English
• A language other than English is also highly valued.
• Basic computer skills. 
• Ensure compliance with safety & security requirements.
• Ability to adhere to Company Staff Policies and Procedures.
• Adhere to our various Cruise Lines Policy & Procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure and under time restraints – able to handle last minute changes and rerouting of tours due to sudden events en route or on the morning of the tour.
