POSITION DESCRIPTION – Tour Guide
As the largest stupa in the Western world, the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion is a major tourist attraction and pilgrimage destination in regional Victoria. We are seeking a casual Tour Guide to join our team to work in our Gift Shop and Visitor Centre. Suitable for anyone with a background in retail, hospitality, or anything involving customer service; someone who would love to add to the visitor experience, helping to make their visit memorable.
Duties will include:
- Welcoming visitors and introducing them to the site
- Providing visitors with information and a map to explore the grounds
- Retail sales and customer service in the gift shop
- Accepting and processing donations and sponsorships
- Assisting in the hosting of large group visits, ceremonies and events
- Assisting the Retail Manager with stock and displays
- Assisting the café where needed
- General cleaning inside the Gift Shop and Visitor Centre
- Maintaining the presentation of the Gift Shop and Visitor Centre
Skills required:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Responsible and reliable
- Works well alone and as part of a team
- Previous cash handling and POS experience
- Ability to relate positively with individuals and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Represents the Great Stupa in a friendly and professional manner
- Moderate level of physical fitness to be able to perform the duties
- No reservations with cleaning
The site is open Weekdays 9am – 5pm, and Weekends and Public Holidays 10:30am – 5pm; longer opening hours may apply for festivals and events. Availability on weekends, public holidays, and during holiday periods is required to meet the needs of our customers.
Remuneration is per the Amusement, Events and Recreation Award – Grade 2, with superannuation of 11% (or as directed by Federal Government legislation). This position is to commence as soon as possible.
