Trackwork Supervisor
Salary: $ 73,500 plus superannuation
Employment Status: Permanent, full time
Dabernig Racing is a Thoroughbred Racing Stable located at the Warrnambool racecourse. We are seeking an experienced and capable individual to join our team on a full-time basis.
The Role:
This position is integral to the daily organization of Dabernig Racing. As the foreperson responsible for our trackwork operations, you will work directly with the Trainer to ensure the smooth running of the stable. This role supervises morning trackwork, including fast work, slow work, treadmills, and walking machines. Additionally, you will coordinate jumpouts and trials. A core responsibility is to monitor horse training operations and ensure all personnel on the track during training are licensed and adhere to all rules and OHS procedures.
Responsibilities:
• Training horses for competition under supervision of lead trainer
• Being in charge of day-to-day operations of racing stable. Directing other employees. Acting as trainer when lead trainer and assistant trainer absent and on race-day
• Staff Management and Education: induction of new staff and introduction to the daily tasks, overseeing of staff performance and correction of mistakes
• Recording and maintaining horse records within the rules of racing;
• Discussing with the lead racehorse trainer each horse's performance and any concerns with the fitness or training of the horse after each ride
• Work with stable vets to manage the ongoing welfare of horses;
• Traveling to jump-outs, barrier trials, race days, and representing the stable.
• Management and Implementation of the daily training schedule in conjunction with the Trainer and Racing Manager;
• Reporting to Trainer, Racing Manager & HR
• Management and coordination of stable staff, including rostering;
Requirements:
• High attention to detail for daily horse husbandry: performing daily tasks of physical labour, including mucking out boxes, cleaning water troughs, surveying horses for injuries or ailments, tacking up and untacking horses before and after their exercise
• Five plus years’ experience in managing and leading a Stable Barn and team;
• Extensive experience and confidence in handling and educating horses;
• Knowledge and experience in the safe distribution, administration and recording of equine medications: orally, intramuscularly and intravenously
• Race day experience representing a stable;
• Knowledge and understanding of the rules of racing;
• Knowledge of occupational health & safety protocols and best stable practices;
• The ability to drive a horse float/truck will be highly regarded;
• Previous experience saddling on race days will be highly regarded.
