Job description

Council is seeking a motivated individual to be part of our Community Development Team as a Trainee Aboriginal Community Development Officer (identified role).

Please note: this role does not provide direct social support services.

Your new role:

As the Aboriginal Community Development Trainee, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of innovative capacity building projects, events and programs in line with the Community Strategic Plan, Reconciliation Action Plan and identified community need
  • Support the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of key events relevant to the local Wiradjuri/Wiradyuri and First Nations community including but not limited to Apology Day, Sorry Day, Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week
  • Support the implementation of Council’s current and future Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
  • Building strong networks and stakeholder relationships to facilitate effective communication, information sharing and increased understanding of culturally appropriate practice between Council and local Wiradjuri/Wiradyuri and First Nation people.
  • Across 24 months you will work full time (35-hour week) alongside experienced supervisors and colleagues, gaining hands-on industry experience and receiving 3 hours paid study time per week towards achieving a nationally recognised Certificate IV qualification.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Confirmation of Aboriginality (see Position Description for further information)
  • A good understanding of First Nations protocols, key dates and issues
  • Great computer skills
  • Full rights to work and study in Australia
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Commitment to undertaking the formal training requirements of this role
  • A current Class P1, P2 or C Driver’s Licence
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check
