About the role
We are on the lookout for an enthusiastic Control Systems Engineer to become a part of our dynamic team at Kooragang Island, NSW on a full-time, permanent basis. Whether you’re just embarking on your professional journey or you’re a seasoned expert in the field, we welcome your passion and expertise.
Orica Kooragang Island’s manufacturing complex is comprised of an Ammonia plant, three nitric acid plants, and two ammonium nitrate plants. The site has significant dispatch operations, capable of providing bagged, containerized, or bulk products for distribution.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the correct operation of Operational Technology that includes Safety Instrumented Systems, Control Systems, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) across the Kooragang Island site.
The role is also expected to support ‘business’ platforms such as Process Historians, Alarm Management, Calibration applications, and security systems. Accountability includes assessment, direction, direct management, and implementation of solutions to medium- and long-term SIS/DCS/PLC issues that could result in production, process, safety, environmental or security problems.

What you will be doing
More specifically, the Engineer - Control Systems will deliver the following within their responsible discipline:
- Review and execution of all system-based changes and maintenance requirements, including the management of support agreements.
- Have or develop a detailed understanding of processes being controlled and managed to ensure an efficient and high level of collaboration with discipline contributors and other stakeholders.
- Support the identification and submission of capital requests to maintain the integrity and relevance of SIS/DCS/PLC hardware and software systems, including related security requirements.
- Manage the SCR (Software Change Request) system and adhere to the site management of change (MOC) procedure.
- Maintain OT documentation, including records such as control narratives, backup and restore procedures, control logic, architecture diagrams, etc.
- Support HAZOP, CHAZOP, LOPA, and other risk assessment activities.
What you will bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Process Control, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Candidates with experience in operational environments, commissioning, and project management will have an edge.
- Working knowledge of the Honeywell Experion PKS DCS system and associated technologies is preferred.
- Working knowledge of the Triconex/Trident safety system is preferred.
- Experience with Windows Server, MS SQL Server, VM Ware, and virtualization is preferred.
- An understanding of how to implement process control strategies and safety system/PLC logic is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Rockwell PLC and HMI, Bentley Nevada, AS61508, and AS61511 will be preferred.
- Experience in establishing communication interfaces with third-party systems.
