Training and Checking Pilot (Examiner)

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is a not-for-profit organisation providing world class aeromedical, search and rescue services to those in need 24/7. The Service has more than 40 years of proud history, and operates from three bases in NSW (Tamworth, Belmont, Lismore) in addition to a Head Office and Deep Level Maintenance (DLM) facility based in Broadmeadow NSW. The Service is currently seeking to recruit an experienced and suitably qualified Training and Checking Pilot (Examiner) who demonstrates advanced leadership skills and a passion for excellence. While location is flexible, this role will require regular travel across all NNHRS bases.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor flight standards and coordinate the competency and currency requirements for Pilots in accordance with the Operations Manual and CASA legislation.
  • Coordinate and conduct Training and Checking of Pilots in accordance with CASA requirements and Company procedures, including annual flight checks. Conduct simulator assessments.
  • Develop and update training material, instructional skills guides, lesson plans, presentations and any other material as requested by the HTC.
  • Deliver training related to Cockpit Duties (FLS) to ACOs, providing appropriate feedback on ACO flight standards to the TCACO.
  • Liaise with the TCACO in order to co-ordinate Pilot, ACO, CCP and Doctor requirements with the aim of maximising the potential of all base training sorties.
  • Produce a monthly report to the Head of Training and Checking on the currency/recency of all base Pilots.
  • Maintain training records in accordance with the Company Training and Checking Manual.

These duties are performed in addition to those of a Line Pilot.

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you hold a Helicopter Flight Examiner Rating with Instrument and NVIS endorsements in addition to the following experience:

  • 2500Hrs PIC Rotary Wing, 1500Hrs PIC Turbine, 500Hrs PIC Twin Rotary.
  • 500Hrs Contract Aircraft, 100Hrs PIC on Contract Aircraft.
  • 100Hrs PIC IFR Rotary Wing
  • Experience as Instructor on complex Multi-Engine Helicopters (Military or Civilian)
  • Helicopter command experience in a variety of operations.
  • 100Hrs EMS and/or SAR Operations

To be successful, you will demonstrate advanced leadership and coaching skills particularly as a communicator, a motivator and a decision maker.

This position is identified Category A/Category A - High Risk in accordance with NSW Health’s framework for the assessment, screening and vaccination of workers to minimise the risk of transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases. As such, it is an essential requirement of this position that you comply with the Service’s policies relating to Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases, including the provision of evidence of protection.

You will need to have the right to work in Australia and be prepared to complete a psychometric assessment, Working with Children Check and National Police History Check, if successful.
