Triage and Assessment SpecialistFamily Connect and Support

About the role

This is a permanent full time position – 70 hours per fortnight located in Oran Park NSW.

About the opportunity

Uniting is currently seeking a Triage and Assessment Specialist to join our Family Connect and Support team in Oran Park NSW. As a Triage and Assessment Specialist within our Family Connect and Support (FCS) program, you will play a pivotal role in providing whole-of-family services to children, young people, and their families who are vulnerable or at risk. You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments to determine their needs and level of vulnerability, while ensuring alignment with FCS program guidelines and legislative requirements. Maintain high standards of conduct and work performance based on Uniting’s values.


• Conduct evidence-informed assessments prioritizing safety, risk, and vulnerability.
• Maintain high standards of service delivery in line with program guidelines and Uniting policies.
• Foster a culture that values the voices of children, young people, and families in decision-making processes.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide effective support and advocacy.
• Utilise diverse engagement approaches including home visits, phone interviews, and liaising with key stakeholders.
• Act as a resource for the FCS team in addressing child protection risks and safety planning.
• Ensure compliance with program specifications, timeframes, and service indicators.
• Maintain accurate client records and adhere to relevant administrative processes.

Your Qualifications & Experience


• Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Youth Work, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in conducting needs assessments and risk/safety planning for families.
• Understanding of child protection issues and legislative requirements.
• Ability to work with diverse communities including Aboriginal and CALD individuals.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Current NSW Working with Children Check and driver's license.
