About the role 

This is a full-time (70 hours per fortnight) closed period contract until 31st May 2025, located in Oran Park NSW.

About the opportunity

Uniting is seeking an experienced Triage & Assessment Specialist to join our Family Connect & Support Team in South-West Sydney. As a Triage and Assessment Specialist for the Family Connect and Support (FCS) program, you will play a vital role in supporting children, young people, and families experiencing or at risk of vulnerability. This program aims to prevent the escalation of issues by offering comprehensive support to those in need. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct whole-of-family assessments to determine complexity and vulnerability, ensuring immediate needs are met.

  • Deliver services within an evidence-informed assessment framework focusing on safety, risk, and vulnerability.
  • Provide high-standard support and service delivery to children, young people, and their families in line with FCS program guidelines and Uniting policies.
  • Maintain professional conduct and work performance to promote Uniting’s reputation with stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture that values the voices and participation of children, young people, and families.
  • Utilize various engagement approaches, including telephone interviews, home visits, and liaising with key stakeholders.
  • Act as a specialist resource for addressing child protection risks and guiding safety planning.
  • Ensure compliance with FCS Program Specifications timeframes and service indicators.
  • Provide planning, support, and structure for the safety of children and young people in families, taking immediate action where necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date client records and administration processes in accordance with Care Link practices and procedures.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local service providers and stakeholders to support FCS program efforts.

Your Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Youth Work, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in conducting comprehensive needs assessments with a focus on risk and safety planning for children, young people, and families.
  • Ability to engage families with high and complex issues and work in partnership with them.
  • Understanding of child protection issues and legislative requirements.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal children, young people, and families in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Ability to identify the needs of CALD children, young people, and their families.
  • Leadership and coordination skills for triage and assessment work.
  • Current NSW Working with Children Check and NSW driver’s license.
