The role

The Senior Educator (Identified) will lead in the planning, scheduling and delivery of training programs, resource development and student assessment for the U-me Koola Program (the Program) for Queensland Health.

This role requires the demonstrated ability to combine your lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being, doing and seeing to provide culturally safe and responsive services and to advocate for the Program and the learner.

The successful person

You will be evaluated on your ability to explain or articulate an understanding of the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. The ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • High-level knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural determinants of health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, including demonstrated cultural knowledge and respect, of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures and community customs and protocols.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of accredited training packages as required by Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) requirements, including an understanding of accredited and non-accredited training programs.

  • Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders that is culturally appropriate.

  • An understanding of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 (legislation.gov.au) and commitment to the Standards 1.13-1.16 for trainers and assessors.

  • The mandatory qualifications required for this role are:

  • Current registration with Aphra as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner; and

  • Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care; and

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE), or TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment; or diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education.

  • Any successful applicant who does not hold the required qualification(s) will be appointed for a fixed term, subject to entering into and participating in a learning agreement in order to obtain the required qualification(s) with financial and travel support.

Queensland Health has partnered with the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) as the Registered Training Organisation (RTO 5285) to deliver the vocational qualifications associated with the Program. Participants are supported with full time employment, tailored education plans to suit individual learning needs, suitable rostering to support engagement with program education and wrap around, culturally safe support to continue through the Program's various academic milestones.
