Are you a seasoned engineering professional with a passion for leadership and innovation in underground mining operations? Barrick Gold's New Porgera Limited (NPL) operations are currently seeking a dynamic Superintendent Engineering for the Underground Department to lead our engineering team and play a key role in the success of our underground mining operations.
Role Overview:
As the Superintendent Engineering (Underground), you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the engineering team in the underground department. This position involves overseeing engineering systems, ensuring the efficient application of engineering principles, and continuous improvement of underground mining processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage engineering systems for underground mining, ensuring the safety and efficiency of operations.
- Provide technical direction to the underground engineering team to achieve production targets.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as geology and metallurgy, to optimize ore extraction processes.
- Manage engineering projects to ensure accurate and timely execution within budget constraints.
- Develop and control operating and capital budgets for underground engineering activities.
- Establish and maintain control of critical engineering parameters to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to enhance operational efficiency and safety in the underground department.
- Challenge operational norms to drive continuous improvement and optimize underground mining performance.
- Analyze data and recommend engineering improvements, supporting change management initiatives.
- Oversee major engineering projects in the underground department using effective project management methodologies.
- Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and occupational health policies in underground engineering.
- Develop the team's capabilities and maintain up-to-date job procedures within the engineering department.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience in underground engineering, including managerial roles in mining operations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of underground mining processes, engineering principles, and project management.
- Proven leadership abilities with a focus on safety, team development, and mentorship.
- Successful implementation of continuous improvement strategies in underground engineering.
- Proficiency in engineering databases and integrated management systems.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
