Client is a public sector authority-based west of Brisbane. They are currently delivering a large capital works program over and above what is deliverable by their in-house teams and need to engage the services of a suitably qualified Civil Engineer with experience of acting as a Superintendents Representative to join their team on a drive-in drive out (DIDO) basis.
Your new role
The role is key to providing reasonable oversight of the civil contractors working on behalf of the council.
Basically, acting as the owners representative and honest broker for the relationship. Day to day will involve:-
- Carrying out and overseeing regular site meetings to check progress, quality and other key deliverables.
- Regularly inspecting works and / or providing support for an Inspector to do same.
- Managing the contractual performance for the client. Which includes implementing some proactive policies, and procedures, but also day to day involvement to issue variations, assess contractual claims and processing contractor's requests for information.
- Provide advice to the councils representative on number of subjects up to and including dispute resolution
What you'll need to succeed
Candidates would to be degree qualified Civil Engineers and or experienced technical officers. They would need to be experienced working in local government or similar state authority such as TMR, or used to working as consultant on behalf of public authority. Candidates need good technical engineering knowledge pertaining to roads and associated infrastructure as well as being a contractual expert, able to understand and broker the obligations of both the asset owner and the main contractor to apply the terms honestly and fairly without undue detriment to either party.
Projects are civil (roads) so experience of roads and drainage infrastructure essential. Experience of NDRRA / DRFA / TNRP works preferred. If they had RPEQ that would be great.
Candidates ideally available fairly quickly and be available to travel to site on DIDO basis. Candidates likely based on site 4.5 days per week. Travelling to on Monday and back on Friday. All travel and accommodation will be paid for.

Good hourly rate suggest in the region of $110-120 per hour plus super. Travel accommodation and per diem all covered by the council. The role is easily driveable from south east corner on weekly basis.
