The Salvation Army ‘Doorways’ community support model engages people at their point of need in a holistic way that is missional, relational and professional. We provide support for those that need it most through financial and material emergency relief and casework which helps them to find long-term solutions.
The volunteer Doorways Support Coordinator supports the Corps Officer in the practical day to day provision of Doorways services at a local site. They supervise, support and set culture for a team of Doorways volunteers as they provide a friendly space where community members feel welcome, safe and accepted.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Volunteers in this role coordinate the Doorways support service within corps. They ensure emergency relief services are provided to those who need it most within our communities.
This extends to responsibility for the day to day operations and the activities of all volunteers in Doorways roles encouraging those who connect with the community to step beyond transactional into relational service provision and referrals.
This role will ensure a welcoming, friendly and safe environment for community members by setting a culture of dignity and respect for all regardless of their current circumstances and background.
They have responsibility to lead and onboard volunteers with assistance from their supervisor.
The Doorways Support Coordinator ensures best practice of information recording (SAMiS), food storage and health and safety of workers and community members. They will ensure these operations are embedded at the site, reflecting the Doorways Model of Care.
We are looking for a fabulous volunteer to join our amazing team at the Devonport Salvos! We proudly work in a team to support our local community supporting community members experiencing hardship and injustice, giving them hope when they need it most.
Time required
Work availability Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays 9:00am - 1:00 pm excluding public holidays or as agreed with manager.
Qualifications and skills
Previous experience connecting with community members, managing operations and supervising others in a social setting is required.
Confidence in using computer software is advantageous.
