Organisation Overview
MAP Co is a state government entity responsible for the delivery of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project as well as the operations, programming, promotion and maintenance of Federation Square and the new Melbourne Arts Precinct public spaces.
Set to boost Melbourne's standing as a creative and cultural capital and to harness the immense potential of one of the most vibrant arts corridors in the world, MAP Co is delivering capital projects including the $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project that includes, The Fox: NGV Contemporary, a new gallery dedicated to contemporary art and design; an 18,000 square metre public open space in the heart of the precinct; significant upgrades to the State Theatre; and new restaurants and bars throughout the space.
Federation Square supports a diverse mix of businesses that service residents, CBD workers and local and international visitors alike. It is proudly home to nationally significant resident cultural institutions the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT), the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia (NGVA) and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). MAP Co works collaboratively with these organisations to support and leverage a wholistic approach to precinct programming.
About the Role
MAP Co is seeking a Venue Operations Manager to elevate the precinct's overall presentation by driving operational improvements, team management and creating an outstanding visitor experience. In this role, you will be responsible for leadership and management of venue and event operations ensuring excellence in precinct presentation. The role will provide exceptional stakeholder relations with clients, suppliers and staff. This position oversees a dedicated team of venue supervisors and event delivery staff.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Team Management: Lead the Venue Supervisor team to deliver exceptional customer service for event delivery and venue presentation.
* Manage rostering, responsibilities, training and performance management of the Venue Supervisor team to ensure adequate levels of support for excellent service delivery.
* Manage the operational efficiency of our event management system to ensure event processes are integrated, seamless and accurate.
* Collaborate closely with teams and stakeholders to provide advice and uphold consistent best practice operational standards, using the event management system (EBMS) to resource and deliver appropriately.
* Cultivate outstanding working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, tenants and service providers to balance competing priorities with presentation objectives.
* Oversee compliance of all venue policies, council permits and engineering documentation including POPE, liquor licences and road closures.
* Prepare event delivery standards/documentation including operational briefs, reports, traffic control plans, event snapshots and contractor briefs.
* Develop policies, procedures and guidelines for event and Venue Operations to mitigate risk and create business improvements for efficiency.

Key Selection Criteria
* Leadership and Team Management: Demonstrated experience in effectively leading and managing a team of event operations employees, including venue supervisors and event staff, to deliver exceptional customer service and ensure seamless event execution.
* Event Operations Expertise: Proven experience in the successful delivery of a wide range of events, particularly large-scale outdoor events, showcasing your ability to manage complex venues, event management systems, and conduct event management analysis to enhance venue aesthetics and visitor experience.
* Infrastructure and Asset Management: Proficiency in overseeing the planning and execution of temporary structures for outdoor events, such as truss structures, stages, custom builds, etc., while ensuring the efficient use and maintenance of event-related infrastructure and storage.
* Regulatory Compliance: Strong understanding of OH&S practices, council permit requirements, and weather management plans related to outdoor public events. Experience in handling compliance with council permits, POPE, liquor licenses, road closures, and adherence to environmental guidelines set by the EPA.
* Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: High-level communication skills, both written and interpersonal, with a proven ability to build relationships with diverse teams, event contractors, Fed Square tenants, and external stakeholders. This includes contributing to the development of a customer-focused event delivery team and developing policies and procedures for efficient event and Venue Operations.
