This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024 

The successful applicant ideally will have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated. Real world experience in hospitality service is highly regarded. We are willing to provide additional qualifications training for the right applicant.

About the position

The prime focus for this position is for the successful applicant to provide training for our students linked to the Trade Training Centre program – that is converted to NSHS Hospitality Hilltop Café one day per week. The applicant will essentially assist students to complete Certificate II in Hospitality.

The successful applicant should be organised, solutions focused with a broad range of skills and strategies to meet a range of students’ learning needs, interests, and abilities. The successful applicant should also be competent in the use of technology and have sound communication and effective interpersonal skills.

The Vocational Trainer and Assessor will ideally have experience in the delivery of Workplace Skills related training programs and possess the ability to establish networks with industry and businesses to support meaningful and relevant learning opportunities for students.

This Trade Trading Centre facility is based on industry standards and has state of the art kitchen facilities. The venue is  located on school grounds and within a beautiful bush environment. The program is supported by staff and community. The successful applicant for this role will be incredibly organized, efficient and display good time management skills. They should also display experience in hospitality and allow for the smooth operation of food services.

This position is ideally suited to an applicant who is willing to relocate to a vibrant country town and become a part of a wonderful community.

About the school

Narrogin SHS has just finished their second year of the Fogarty EDvance school improvement program as such; we are on an improvement agenda focused on improving student outcomes through consistent approaches to pedagogy and positive behaviour strategies. We require staff who value and can build strong positive relationships with students and the community, so we are looking for applicants who can work effectively with all our stakeholders to achieve the best educational outcomes for students. The nostalgic two storey structure of the school has pride of place in the town and has been built on the highest point in the district with sweeping views of the town and the hinterlands. An extensive building program has resulted in the new Hospitality Trade Training Facility, a new Administration building, and new state of the art Music and Performing Arts centres. Narrogin SHS also draws students from all directions including: Boddington, Wickepin, Pingelly and Wagin.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Relevant current industry skills, knowledge, experience and competency in the industry vocation or professional field.
  • Comprehensive understanding and sound knowledge of the vocational education and training quality framework, including training packages, Australian qualifications framework, the standards for rtos, recognition of prior learning and competency-based training and assessment.
  • Ability to design and prepare training programs and assessment materials to a high standard.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills with the appropriate interpersonal skills for working with young people.
  • Initiative and organisational skills and the ability to work as a member of a team.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

hold one of the following or be willing to train in any of the following within six months of appointment:

  • TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent;
  • SIT 20322 Certificate II in Hospitality
  • SIT 20421 Certificate II in Cookery
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
