This is a permanent part-time (0.2FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2024

Clarkson Community High School (CHS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Vocational Trainer and Assessor to join our friendly team.

Please note that this position is 0.2 FTE over four days.

At Clarkson CHS, Vocational Trainer and Assessors provide students with a purposeful and engaging learning experience to develop their skills and knowledge related to specific areas of industry. We are proud to host a tailor designed training salon – You Beauty. This modern and accessible facility provides a relevant setting for year 10 - year 12 students to engage with Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics (SHB20116). Ideally, you should have beauty industry specific training and experience to support engaging and mentoring students in accordance with specific course requirements, timelines and resources.

The successful applicant will ideally be a passionate and dedicated educator who is highly motivated. Skill in designing, delivering and assessing beauty and cosmetic related Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses will be highly regarded. You should be student and relationship focused, enthusiastic, innovative, and motivated with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

Teachers at Clarkson CHS engage in ongoing self-reflection and assess the effectiveness of practice to create an environment conducive to learning. We aim to provide educational opportunities that are purposeful and relevant to student’s areas of interest. You should ideally possess thorough understanding of instructional skill demonstration relevant to the beauty and cosmetic industry. Ideally your approach to VET education should incorporate ongoing constructive feedback relating to learning activities and assessments, to ensure continuous improvement for learners. You should have high expectations, display a commitment to excellence, use a range of pedagogies, and have the ability to establish and maintain a positive, engaging and safe classroom learning environment.

Clarkson CHS provides high-quality education to over 370 students in year 7 to year 12. We have high-quality teaching and a curriculum that engages and extends students. Clarkson CHS has a culture of high care and is building a culture of high expectation and high achievement. We have approximately 50 staff who are dedicated in helping students achieve their best and make the most of their education.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Relevant current industry skills, knowledge, experience and competency in the industry vocation or professional field.
  • Comprehensive understanding and sound knowledge of the Vocational Education and Training Quality Framework, including Training Packages, Australian Qualifications Framework, the Standards for RTOs, Recognition of Prior Learning and competency based training and assessment.
  • Ability to design and prepare training programs and assessment materials to a high standard.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills with the appropriate interpersonal skills for working with young people.
  • Initiative and organisational skills and the ability to work as a member of a team

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • hold one of the following:

- TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment;
- TAE 40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment: and TAELLN411 or TAELLN401A; and: TAEASS502 or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B;
- a relevant higher qualification

  • hold a relevant Certificate lll trade qualification or relevant higher qualification
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by department policy
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
