This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024

The Western Australian College of Agriculture (WACOA) – Cunderdin is seeking to appoint an innovative and enthusiastic Teacher - Design and Technology OR Vocational Trainer and Assessor (VTA) in the area of Building and Construction to join our dynamic team.

About the role

The role of Construction teacher or VTA at Cunderdin is to design, prepare and deliver quality training programs and assessment strategies in Construction to Year 11 and Year 12 students. Our staff are highly motivated and committed people who are keen to engage and mentor their students, ensuring they are developing knowledge and skills and are fully aware of course requirements, timelines and resources.

It is ideal (but not essential) that the successful applicant have experience in the delivery of VET Certificate courses and hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. It is highly desirable for applicants to possess industry currency, formal qualifications in Construction with the capacity to deliver industry-standard training.

If you are a skilled Trades person with a desire to pass on your knowledge and skills to the next generation but do not have any teaching/training experience, you are still encouraged to make contact and apply. In our environment, we support new staff to gain the necessary skills for delivering training to students.

Our school

WACOA – Cunderdin is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) offering a variety of nationally accredited certificate training courses in modern workshops with industry standard equipment and facilities. We provide Year 11 and Year 12 students with a unique educational experience focused on innovation and excellence and was recently named WA Small Training Provider of the Year in 2023 and are currently a finalist in the 2023 Australian Training Awards.

WACOA – Cunderdin has a proven track record for continually developing competent, highly skilled graduates that are thoroughly prepared for post-school employment, further education and/or training. The successful applicant will pay a pivotal role in developing highly competent, work-ready individuals.

WACOA – Cunderdin is conveniently located adjacent to the Wheatbelt town of Cunderdin, 160kms east of Perth. Subject to eligibility, subsidised GROH housing may be accessible.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

If you are a Vocational Trainer and Assessor, in your application you will need to demonstrate competency against the following work-related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Relevant current industry skills, knowledge, experience and competency in the industry vocation or professional field.
  • Comprehensive understanding and sound knowledge of the Vocational Education and Training Quality Framework, including Training Packages, Australian Qualifications Framework, the Standards for RTOs, Recognition of Prior Learning and competency-based training and assessment.
  • Ability to design and prepare training programs and assessment materials to a high standard.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills with the appropriate interpersonal skills for working with young people.
  • Initiative and organisational skills and the ability to work as a member of a team.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

If you are a qualified teacher

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

If you are a Vocational Trainer and Assessor

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;

  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • Hold a relevant Certificate Ill trade qualification or relevant higher qualification
  • Hold one of the following:
    • TAE 40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment;
    • TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment;
    • TAE 40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment: and
    • TAELLN411 or TAELLN401A; and:
    • TAEASS502 or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B;
    • a relevant higher qualification
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
