War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24-hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 6 day a week day centre program, 24-hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. The Health & Security Assistant works as part of the small and cohesive Environmental Services Department at WMH.
WMH engages Health and Security assistants with Class 1A Security Licences to undertake the basic afterhours site security needs, inclusive of lockdown and response processes, alongside maintaining round the clock cleaning schedules.
The role is also responsible for meeting the hospital campus cleaning, linen and waste requirements during daytime hours.
This includes clinical and non-clinical areas alongside basic hospital portering duties.
This role would suit a candidate with Hospital Cleaning experience who would be willing to undertake further study to gain a Class 1A NSW Security License in a supportive environment The Health and Security Assistant has some direct patient contact as well as with various members of the healthcare team including nursing, allied health and support staff, visitors and contractors to the site.
The role is well supported by the Hotel Services Manager.
This position is a Full Time Permanent role with a 24/7 rotating roster which includes weekend, evening and night shifts.
Selection Criteria:
1. Health and Security Assistant or Security Officer with cleaning experience or Hospital Cleaner/ Porter interested in learning security procedures
2. Possession of a current New South Wales Class 1A Security Licence and First Aid Certificate in accordance with the Security Industry Act or willing to work towards
3. Knowledge and experience in general security and risk management awareness
4. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of hospital cleaning standards and processes
5. Proven interpersonal, written, electronic and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with patients, visitors and other staff across all levels in the Hospital and computer skills relevant to the role and mandatory training requirements
6. Demonstrated ability to work well supervised, within a team and also independently following schedules and instructions
7. Ability and availability to work across a 7 day rotating roster
8. Awareness of Work Health Safety and Infection Control principles
