ABOUT THE ROLE – A unique lifestyle opportunity!

The Waste Engagement Officer, role is a lifestyle opportunity offering the right candidate a full-time permanent position commencing at 6am and finishing at noon on most days (with time for a ‘meal break’).  

The role will involve extensive walking, in metro and urban settings, ensuring that you get to enjoy a healthy exercise regime at work and then have the freedom to enjoy your afternoons with your working day behind you! 

The majority of the field work will be in the Willoughby local government area, although you will also be required to work in other areas around the Sydney Metropolitan area from time to time.

We are an essential services industry, offering stability to employees and reliability to our customers.  This position is a permanent, full-time Monday to Friday.

The role will include:

• Visual inspections of kerbside bins prior to collection in selected areas, mainly in the Willoughby area of Sydney
• Data collection based on observations – via a smartphone app; and data extraction and preparation/ reporting after inspections
• Engagement and liaison with residents and the community at the kerbside / in the community when approached
• Extensive community engagement

• Well-developed people and relationship skills

ABOUT YOU

• Knowledge, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge, of kerbside waste services – recycling, food and garden waste etc
• Willingness to engage in physical research projects including frequent early morning walking bin inspections, and educational intervention programs
• Reasonable level of computer literacy, including an understanding of basic Excel functions
• Confidence in verbal communication skills, including customer service and face to face public engagement
• The ability to work alone and within a multi-disciplinary team
• Class C drivers licence - essential
• Be dedicated and reliable; we are an essential service industry 
• An understanding of sustainability or the environmental field, with an interest in community education, behaviour change and communication
