Job description

  • Exciting opportunity to develop and deliver the new Bookable Bulk project within the City of Wanneroo

About the position

The City is seeking a Waste Technical Officer to join its Waste Services team to develop, deliver and evaluate waste compliance programs, initiatives and learning resources that promote positive waste and recycling choices, and support the City's Strategic Waste Management Plan.

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager in Waste Services, you will work in partnership with stakeholders to develop and implement engagement plans and learning resources supporting the City's new Bookable Bulk program (pre-booked bulk collection).

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating waste compliance programs, initiatives and learning resources that enable achievement of the Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan.
  • Researching, analysing and reviewing waste management and education issues, and recommending evidence based options and solutions for improvement and mitigation.
  • Liaising with residents to promote waste reduction and recycling and implementing programs providing a community-friendly waste collection and disposal service.
  • Investigating illegal dumping, which includes collecting evidence for prosecutions, ensuring compliance with waste collection requirements and conducting bin audits.

About you

You will be passionate about developing, implementing and evaluating education and compliance programmes. To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Qualification in relevant discipline, such as Environmental Science, Sustainability or Education is desirable.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role is required.
  • Intermediate experience in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology.
  • Intermediate computing, numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  • Intermediate customer service skills.
  • Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  • Advanced communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate research and analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures in the workplace, including operations where interaction with members of the public may be reasonably expected to occur.
  • C class Drivers Licence.
