ABOUTGEMCO
Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world's manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a Permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns to Groote Eylandt. Please note that Residential living, and alternative FIFO rosters will be considered.
GEMCO manages substantial Water Management volumes (in excess of 80GL per annum) and a large mobile fleet of (>100) electrical and mechanical dewatering assets.
Given the operational complexity, the team has a demonstrated need for a tactical individual to help provide dewatering and Water Management operational support.
As the Water Management Engineer, you will have a unique position as part of a highly valued and well-resourced Water Management function. Working collaboratively with several GEMCO departments this team provides water stewardship, technical advice, planning and operational direction in GEMCO's Water Management operations and whole of operation water balance. As such providing thorough well-planned, data informed decisions, plans, execution designs and strategies. This role will also provide wider technical and field support to maintain mine Water Management equipment and monitoring infrastructure.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
- Manage relevant internal water projects for site Water Management to meet objectives set in collaboration with short-term and medium‑term engineering teams.
- Oversee dewatering assets, including generators, electrical and mechanical pumps, pipework and associated Water Management equipment.
- Manage critical surface/groundwater and dewatering monitoring systems, procedures, and associated databases.
- Monitor water quality, manage water storage and usage volumes as well as excess discharge controls.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Prior experience gained in a similar role within Mining Operations, consultancy or other civil Water Management roles.
- Ability to educate and influence on importance of dewatering and Water Management operations
- Technical background or knowledge of large-scale water systems; reticulation, pumping, hydraulics and telemetry (highly desirable).
Qualifications for this position are:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Geoscience, Geological or Environmental desirable. Direct relevant industry experience considered in lieu of a tertiary qualification
