Form of workThe Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a commercial Statutory Authority responsible to the Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and Minister for Water.
GAWB’s purpose is to supply water in bulk to major consumers in the Gladstone Region. Those consumers comprise major industries, power generating organisations, and the Gladstone Regional Council.
GAWB manages a variety of assets ranging from major water storage through to pump stations, pipelines, storage tanks and water treatment plants and takes measures to protect the quantity and quality of present and future water supplies and provides, operates and maintains recreational facilities and fish fingerling production facilities and stocking programs.
About the Role
Reporting to the Water Treatment Manager, the Water Operator provides operational assistance in the daily functioning of GAWB’s two water treatment plants and treated and raw water networks. The position is also responsible for undertaking routine tasks such as asset inspection and minor maintenance tasks to ensure plant reliability. Additionally, the role will ensure that treated water meets Australian Drinking Water Guidelines criteria, thereby providing safe drinking water to the community.
About You
GAWB are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Water Operator who has a professional approach and strong commitment to our service obligations. You will have excellent decision making and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic operating environment to deliver, high quality and safe services to our customers.
Your key accountabilities include:
- Monitor the day-to-day operation of the Treatment Plant/s to maintain compliance with GAWB business requirements, relevant legislation and the ADWG.
- Monitoring, Responding and Reporting of GAWB’s Potable and Raw Water Supply Network.
- Operate treatment plants including the adjustment of process parameters, maintenance of the process equipment, monitoring of performance
- Undertake fault diagnosis of plant assets to identify cause and solutions
- Collect and analyse information for improved decision making by recording plant performance against Key Performance Indicators and identify opportunities for improvement
- Identify, develop and ensure implementation of safety related procedures resulting from the risk management activities
- Foster a safety culture by following all safety procedures, guidelines and assist in the implementation of safety improvement initiatives.
Essential Qualification / Licences
A current C class driver’s licence is required and qualifications in Certificate III or equivalent in in water industry operations are essential. Forklift licence and confined space certification is highly desirable. The successful person will be required to work on a shift roster.
Essential Experience / Capabilities
- Proficiency in computer applications eg: Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Proficient in reading and interpreting maps and simple drawings.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of technology and instrumentation including calibration of equipment
- You will have demonstrated experience in the operation of water treatment plants, and / or experience working in a processing plant environment and have a demonstrated understanding of the principles of operation for the equipment on site.
