The Humanitarian Settlement Program’s (HSP) primary purpose is to provide welcome, safety and security to clients under the program while ensuring they are linked with essential services and appropriate housing options to ensure a smooth transition to life in Australia.

Multicultural Australia has recently created new teams and ways of working which will provide for more tailored and client and community led services across our leading program for humanitarian settlement.   As part of this new way of working, we have openings for Welcome Coordinators within our experienced and supportive team. 

Welcome Coordinators play a fundamental role in welcoming newcomers and facilitating their successful settlement into the community for the initial stages of their settlement journey.

We’re looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who want to be part of a caring and supportive team delivering important work with our clients. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide support and assistance to individuals and families as they navigate the initial stages of their settlement journey.
  • act as the first point of contact for newcomers, offering information, referrals, and guidance to access essential services and resources.
  • Provide culturally competent case coordination services to individuals from diverse refugee and humanitarian backgrounds and ages including providing a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment and creating moments that matter for the initial 6-7 months of the client’s settlement journey.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessment on arrival, including assessment of settlement needs, identification of client aspirations and goals, and explanation of the humanitarian settlement program and available services and referrals.
  • Systematically ensure that all clients are receiving the essential services throughout the initial stage of settlement.
  • Regularly meet with clients face to face, providing culturally sensitive emotional support demonstrating an understanding of acculturation and the enduring effects of past torture and trauma.
  • Ensure all case notes, administration and documentation is completed to provide for quality service to clients. 
  • Take a collaborative, flexible and client focused approach to your work including flexibility to support out of hours emergency on call roster. 

What qualifications and skills do I need?

Qualifications, licences and probity

  1. Demonstrated minimum attainment of a Diploma of Community Services (Case Management). Other relevant qualifications (including overseas qualifications) or experience may be recognised and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field would be highly regarded.;
  2. Valid Queensland Driver’s License;
  3. Possession of, or willingness and eligibility to obtain a Blue Card Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 and the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Regulation 2020, and
  4. National Police Clearance Check.

Essential Skills / Experience 

  1. Proven psychosocial assessment and case management skills and the ability to design and implement culturally appropriate case coordination plans to enhance the settlement process within a team environment, as well as with housing providers and relevant government/community agencies and other external service providers;
  2. An excellent understanding and knowledge of issues, current practice and policies in relation to the support of asylum seekers and refugees as well children and young people living in out of home care arrangements and living in kinship care arrangements;

Desirable Skills / Experience

  1. Experience supervising or line managing a team of staff;
  2. Accredited in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention; and

Successful candidate will be required to have a valid driver’s licence, police check and apply for a Working with Children Blue Card.
