About the role
Reporting to the Safety and Security Officer in Albany, the WHS Advisor - Projects will provide health and safety advice for the Southern Ports Asset Works Program and be embedded alongside the Port Development Projects Supervision team.
Accountabilities and functions will include developing, harmonizing, implementing, promoting and continually improving the Port’s WHS Management systems to reduce or eliminate WHS hazards and risks from the construction and asset works programs.
The WHS Advisor - Projects will be responsible for ensuring site, contractor, regulatory and legislative requirements are met in line with the direction set by the Safety Management System.
This two (2) year fixed term position will be based in Albany and will appeal to a suitably qualified person with project safety experience and will require innovative thinking and a calm, focused approach.
Responsibilities and Expertise
- Certificate or Diploma of OH&S or similar and minimum five (5) years’ experience in a construction/project or mining role (align these with the JDF)
- Cert IV Training and Assessment is desirable
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate
- Knowledge of safety review processes and management of hazards in construction
- Knowledge and understanding of the WHS Act & Regulations
- Strong understanding and knowledge of AUS/NZ safety standards
- Passionate about health and safety and the commitment to drive the delivery of 'zero' harm outcome
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
- Flexibility to successfully manage a variety of tasks
- Ability to work effectively under minimum supervision
- Effective negotiation, communication, coaching and presentation skills
- Preparedness to apply knowledge/skills in a dynamic environment
- High energy level and commitment to the role
- Current WA C Class Driver’s Licence.

Requirements
To be eligible for this two (2) year fixed term role, applicants must reside or be willing to relocate to Albany and provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency. The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card and undergo a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
