HBT GmbH, headquarters in Luenen, NRW, Germany, is a world-class machine manufacturer and fully integrated single solution provider – specialising in systems and equipment for underground coal mining. The company exports its high-performance longwall mining equipment to all major mining markets worldwide, strategically located in 15 countries including Australia.

The core HBT facilities have the capability for research, development, design, manufacture and testing of longwall mining equipment in-house. All HBT products and systems are produced to the highest standards and compliant with international regulatory requirements.

In addition to machine manufacturing, HBT also manufactures high-quality OE parts and provides world-class support services for their equipment to ensure their customers succeed.

HBT Services QLD is responsible for the overhauls of longwall machinery across QLD and operates under two (2) plants, being Overhauls and Gearbox repairs.

About the role:

As a Health, Safety, Environmental Advisor working Monday to Friday in our workshop located in Paget. Your key role is to ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance. You will foster a strong safety culture by promoting awareness, accountability, and participation in safety initiatives. Additionally, you will encourage employees to report safety concerns and engage in safety programs. You will deliver training programs, working closely with management, HR, and safety staff to identify and address training needs effectively.

The position of WHSE Advisor will be responsible for:

• Deliver comprehensive training programs, including presentations, handouts, and interactive activities.

• Using training programs to educate employees on various aspects of Workplace Health and Safety including Take 5, workplace inspections and investigations.

• Delivering engaging and informative training & orientation sessions to employees at all levels and employment stages in the organisation.

• Keeping up to date with relevant health and safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices to ensure training materials and programs are current and compliant.

• Collaborating with management and safety personnel to identify training needs based on job roles, workplace hazards and incident trends.

• Serving as a champion for workplace safety by fostering awareness, accountability and a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk mitigation.

• Creating and implementing workplace health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and promote a safe work environment.

• Conducting regular risk assessments and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective action.

• Investigating accidents, injuries, or near-misses to determine root causes and develop strategies for prevention.

• Developing and implementing emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and communication strategies.

About you:

Qualifications:

• Relevant industry experience.

• Certificate IV WHS

• 3 or more years in a similar position.

• I-CAM Lead Investigators course training is highly desirable.

Previous Knowledge & Experience:

• Prior experience in Workplace Health and Safety, preferably in an industrial manufacturing setting.

• Strong understanding of Workplace Health and Safety principles, regulations, and industry standards.

• Strong understanding of Workplace Health & Safety Regulations within QLD.

• Familiarity with instructional design principles and adult learning theory.

• Detail-oriented with strong organisational and time management skills.

• Flexibility to adjust training approaches and materials based on the needs of different audiences and changing regulatory requirements.

Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

• High attention to detail.

• Ability to write workplace policies and reports.

• Ability to travel when required.

• Presentation skills.

• Strong relationship management skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders.

• Strong value for safety of self, others and environments while at work.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and experience with learning management systems (LMS) or other training platforms is preferred.
