Wind Engineer

What we're looking for:
  
Collar are seeking an experienced Wind Engineer to work with a Renewable Energy Leader based in Sydney. The Wind Engineer will contribute across a portfolio of wind farm projects under development and work closely with the wider development team consisting of Land Managers, Development Managers and a GIS Team. The Wind Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of wind resource assessment and wind data analysis including preparation of energy yield forecasts to support prospecting and development activities.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

• Undertake preliminary wind resource assessments of sites during the origination phase.
• Work closely with the Development Managers and provide technical direction regarding wind resource assessment strategy for wind farm projects.
• Ensure the procurement and delivery of robust and bankable wind data for wind farm projects.
• Conducting in house data analysis and energy yield forecasts using industry standard methodologies and software.
• Provide direction to development team for site optimisation, including turbine selection and layout assessment.
• Undertake Quality Assurance for data captured by monitoring devices.
• Manage contractors responsible for deployment and maintenance of remote sensing devices and MET masts.
• Manage scope and deliverables of consultants providing data management, analysis and energy yield forecasts.
• Working alongside the commercial team to provide technical inputs for financial models.
• Support of the broader team in developing a wider portfolio of projects.

Skills, experience and qualifications:
As the successful applicant you should have the following experience and attributes:

• Approximately 5-10 years post-graduation experience in either consulting or wind project development, ownership or operation.
• A minimum qualification of bachelor's degree in engineering, meteorology, atmospheric science or related field. 
• Demonstrable understanding of wind energy industry, including wind resource assessments, site evaluations, wind turbine technology, and the wind farm development process.
• Wind resource assessment experience including constraint mapping, optimising the wind turbine locations and determining energy yield of wind farm sites using industry-standard software (WindPro preferred) and methodologies.
• Ability to analyse wind data using statistical and computational techniques.
• Maintaining and manage wind resource data to ensure data integrity.
• Knowledge of remote sensing technologies (LiDAR, SODAR) and their applications in wind resource assessment.
• Understanding of wind turbine technology, and their performance characteristics.
• Project management and wind farm project development experience is preferred.
• Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident preferred.
