An exciting opportunity exists with Ngaanyatjarra Council Group as a Work Health and Safety Advisor to join our People and Culture team based in Perth CBD, This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated person with a strong interest in remote communities to make a real difference to the lives of Aboriginal people.
About the role
The Advisor – Work Health and Safety assists and guides employees in the consistent application of safe systems of work to enhance the safety culture across the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Promote a positive safety culture through the active management of WHS management systems, including providing specialist advice, support, training and education to employees in relation to Work Health, safety, security, wellbeing and risk.
- Continuously improve processes in relation to Work Health and Safety systems.
- Facilitate contemporary risk management practice, undertake incident investigation and reporting, and facilitate WHS working groups including Health and Safety Representatives, First Aid Officers, and Emergency wardens.
- Prepare regular reporting and analysis for the executive leadership team.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Coordinate and minute Health and Safety Committee meetings.
- Oversee, improve and as required deliver WHS induction programs.
- Assisting with conducting audits of the safety systems to determine the degree of compliance with KPI’s and targets and provide feedback to the executive leadership team.
- Maintain records and provide reporting of all Safety and Health related incidents including: lost time injuries, all other injuries, first aid treatments and near misses.
- Maintain and update WHS policies, procedures and documentation, and contribute to solutions for challenging Health and Safety issues in partnership with relevant work groups.
- Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Any other duties as directed having regards skills, experience and knowledge.
About you:
- Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, including conflict management.
- Effective organization, time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritise tasks.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Intermediate MS office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills
- Experience in working with HR, Safety and compliance systems (desirable).
- Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety and/or equivalent experience
- Open C class Driver’s licence
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent (desirable)
- White Card (desirable)
- ICAM or equivalent investigation qualifications (desirable)
- Experience working with Aboriginal people (desirable).
