Career Employment Group is seeking a self-motivated and articulate individual to fill a full time Work, Health and Safety Officer position. This position may be based in Whyalla or Adelaide.
The core purpose of this position is to promote an organisational culture and practices which create a safe work environment, implement and monitor Work Health and Safety (WHS) in accordance with company requirements, legislation and codes for practice, and efficiently conduct Return to Work Coordinator functions and assist injured workers
This role requires travel to all our sites, including Whyalla (head office), Pt Lincoln, Roxby Downs, Adelaide CBD and Globe Derby. Travel may also be required to our client locations throughout metropolitan and regional SA.
To be successful in this role you will use your extensive WHS knowledge to develop and maintain CEG’s Safety Management System, and assist injured workers back to the pre-injury duties. This role will also require the development of strong relationships with external WHS stakeholders including industry committees, RTWSA, RTWSA insurer and SafeWork SA.
This role will involve:
Work, Health and Safety Officer functions:
- Assist with the development and maintenance of an effective Safety Management System,
- Provide accurate and up to date safety information, support and advice to all CEG departments
- Establish strong relationships with stakeholders, ensuring all parties have a clear understanding of their roles and accountabilities to reduce risks and incidents and ensure a safe workplace
- Develop relationships with a range of external organisations, to keep abreast of developments in WHS practice
- Identify and investigate WHS risks/non compliances
- Provide support to CEG departments to conduct WHS audits and assessments
- Engage with CEG staff to identify and report hazards, assess risks and implement controls
- Contribute significantly to the development and implementation of CEG WHS policies, procedures, systems and strategies.
- Proactively develop and implement new initiatives to target WHS risks and provide education to mitigate risks
Return to work Coordinator functions:
- Ensure activities associated with the successful injury management of both work-related and non-work related injuries/illness are coordinated and implemented in a timely manner to optimise a recovery at work
- Communicate with all treatment providers including treating doctors, and allied health professional to facilitate recovery and return to work
- Notify, report and triage all incidents resulting in injury/illness to the relevant insurer
- Work with internal stakeholders to collect and collate all documentation required for incident investigations and claim lodgements
To succeed in this role you will:
- Experience and/or understanding of Work Health and Safety Act 2012 and Return to Work Act 2014
- Understanding of Fair Work Act 2009
- Experience in developing WHS policies and procedures
- Experience in hazard identification, rectification and education
- Committed to providing high levels of customer service to internal and external clients
- Be a self-starter with energy, drive and an ability to work with minimal direction
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to build strong relationships
- Demonstrate an ability to juggle a multitude of tasks and prioritise work schedules
