Our client is a major manufacturer of industrial products in Australia. Their raw materials are made into a multitude of products for various applications. Waste is then converted to the manufacturing of by-products. Earlier last year, the business was purchased by a national leader in their sector, hence providing higher levels of financial injection and stability.
The Role
Due to expansion and growth, the business has decided to search for a new Workplace Health & Safety Coordinator. This role reports into the Health, Safety & Environment Manager.
The WHS Coordinator is responsible for engaging operational staff and line leads to view safety as a major priority across site and corporate office levels. The right candidate will build on current safety policies and procedures through advising staff and leaders at site as well as maintaining the ongoing administrative duties to ensure adherence and compliance.
The right candidate will work closely with operations to build on current Health, Safety and Return to Work policies and procedures, and maintain registers and records. They will be tasked with reviewing existing protocols and standardising a “best practice” approach to ensure a level of uniformity across the business.
They will come with a solutions-focussed approach, with the ability to present business cases for improvements in operational safety.
Operationally, they will work with operations to drive safety conscious behaviours, streamline practices to improve safety performance and reduce risk across the site, offices, and transport network. They will engage employees in training, audit practices to ensure effective implementation, and lead safety risk assessments for continuous improvement. In doing so they will aim to minimise Lost Time Injuries and safety risk, as well as increase reporting of hazards and near misses.
To be successful, this individual will have sound ability in influence at all levels and driving a strong Safety culture from the ground up. This involves being a strong voice to and for positive Safety behaviours. They will be able to identify gaps, create a roadmap, build a framework, whilst being able to train and monitor on an on-going basis.
The WHS Coordinator will be familiar with all current codes of practice and liaise with government bodies and regulators including WorkSafe and WorkCover to ensure the site is in compliance with national and global safety standards. They will possess the ability to engage all members and bring them on a journey towards safety excellence.
Skills & Experience
- Relevant WH&S tertiary qualifications.
- Minimum of 1-2 years industry experience.
- Demonstrated success within a manufacturing, transport, and warehousing environment is ideal.
- Have prior successes in the implementation and ongoing management of a safety framework within a similar organization.
- Working knowledge of Safety Management Systems, Manufacturing Processes, Quality Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems is ideal.
- Candidates that are in the process of further studies will also be considered.
