ABOUT THE ROLE
At Dahlsens, we believe in putting our customers first and providing exceptional service from the moment they set foot in our yard. As a Yard Person, you will be at the forefront of our operations, responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of our yard and delivering an outstanding customer experience. Your dedication and attention to detail will play a crucial role in creating a positive and efficient environment for both customers and colleagues.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE
- Safely and efficiently unload timber and associated items from trucks, demonstrating a high level of care and precision in handling delicate materials.
- Assemble customer orders with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring that all products are properly packaged and ready for delivery.
- Load customer orders onto trucks, utilising your expertise to optimise space and weight distribution for safe transportation.
- Maintain a well-organised timber yard by racking timber and Building Materials in a logical and accessible manner.
- Operate forklifts skilfully and safely, adhering to all relevant safety guidelines and protocols.
- Occasionally drive and deliver customer orders, extending our commitment to exceptional service beyond the yard.
- Efficiently move and handle stock and timber within the yard, utilising appropriate tools and equipment to minimise manual effort.
- Prepare and pull orders accurately, paying close attention to details such as quantity, quality, and specific customer requirements.
- Assist with general administration duties, such as maintaining records, processing paperwork, and ensuring compliance with established processes and procedures.
- Perform manual handling of timber and materials when necessary, demonstrating proper lifting techniques and promoting a safe working environment.
- Maintain a consistently neat, clean, and hazard-free yard, ensuring that aisles, storage areas, and walkways are free from obstacles and debris.
- Uphold a high level of site safety, actively identifying and addressing potential hazards, and promoting a culture of safety among your team, staff, and site visitors.
- Embrace a "hands-on" approach and showcase a proactive "can-do" attitude, taking initiative to assist with various tasks and contribute to the overall success of the yard operations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Forklift Licence (mandatory).
- Manual or Automatic car licence (desirable).
- Previous experience in a warehouse or storage yard, equipping you with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills relevant to the position.
- Knowledge or experience working with timber products will be highly advantageous, enabling you to better understand customer needs and provide tailored assistance.
