About Us
Yawoorroong Miriuwung Gajerrong Yirrgeb Noong Dawang Aboriginal Corporation (MG Corporation) was established in 2006 to receive and manage the benefits transferred under the OFA to the MG People, who are recognised under Australian law as holding Native Title over large areas in the North of Western Australia’s east Kimberley region.
MG Corporation seeks to achieve a healthy, wealthy, and culturally strong MG community. MG Corporation supports evidence-based social and community development projects that generate positive social and economic outcomes for MG people.
The Kununurra Youth Patrol is a 6-month pilot program targeting street-present young people. The 24-hour diversionary program seeks to engage and support street-present youth to be safe and secure and to develop positive behaviours and life choices.
The Position
The Youth Patrol Team Leaders will work in a team environment and lead a team of Patrol Workers to deliver a 24-hour Youth Patrol roster. The position requires a commitment to working evening and night shifts.
The position reports to the Youth & Family Support Case Manager and the Youth Programs Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery:
- Manage the Kununurra Youth Patrol Team rosters to deliver a 24-hour Youth Patrol and diversionary program.
- Manage and support the Kununurra Youth Patrol Team to deliver services that:
- Identify and build relationships with street-present young people to increase their safety and well-being through engagement in positive activity.
- Work with street-present young people to provide positive role modelling and mentoring to positively influence their behaviour and choices.
- Provide support and advice to assist in increasing the safety and well-being of young people.
- Collate and report on daily/nightly youth contacts to the Youth and Family Support Team
- Maintain electronic client records and case management data.
- Manage regular team meetings to improve service delivery, support Youth Patrol staff, and address support for street present youth.
Service Collaboration:
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key youth service agencies to identify and enable an effective response to young people at risk.
- Participate in strategies to increase the safety of young people in the community.
- Participate in emergency management and response duties as required.
- Participate in training and supervision sessions as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in supporting young people with complex and challenging behaviours.
- Demonstrated ability to support young people to be safe, avoid anti-social behaviours, and make positive choices.
- Demonstrated ability as a role model and leader.
- Demonstrated teamwork ability.
- Strong organisational skills and sense of responsibility
- Good communication skills, including the ability to engage in a ‘good way’ with young people and their families.
- Respect for cultural protocols within as well as outside of the organisation.
