Salary: $81,192 per annum/pro rata

The Tangentyere Youth and Community Safety (YCS) Division brings together a range of programs and services for young people. This includes the Brown Street Youth Service, Town Camp Youth Hubs and Youth Outreach Service providing afterhours programs to young people on Town Camps and in Alice Springs. The YCS Division is increasingly working in an integrated fashion, ensuring staff and programs work together to provide holistic services for young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing. This means that staff, including the YCS Food and Nutrition Officer, are working across program siloes to provide client and placed-based focused services that are flexible and responsive to needs.
The purpose of YCS Food and Nutrition Officer is to ensure that:
• The meals provided to young people at our programs are of a high standard in quality, nutritional value, and of interest to the young people.
• That safe food preparation practices, and the kitchen and its equipment are maintained to Territory and National Food Safety Standards and regulations.
• That young people have opportunities to learn and practice food preparation and hospitality skills in a safe and supportive environment.
The YCS Food and Nutrition Officer will have a crucial role in the support, development, and education of young people in our programs with a focus on nutrition, healthy eating, food preparation and budgeting. The Food and Nutrition Officer will be expected to
• Supervise and mentor Youth Trainees who are interested in working in the Youth Services Kitchen or gaining employment in hospitality.
• Run short cooking workshops with groups of young people as part of the Youth Program’s activity schedule including ‘Café Nights’ at 3 Brown Street.
• Prepare meals five days per week for Tangentyere’s youth programs.
The Nutrition and Food Officer is a part-time position, working Tuesdays to Saturdays.
As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.
