About the Role

CareSouth is seeking experienced and passionate Support Workersto provide individualised 24/7 support for young people living inour Shoalhaven programs. Our young people come from a background oftrauma and we are looking for people who will work with theirstrengths to see them thrive. Could it be you?

Working as part of the team, you will have ongoing support andprofessional development opportunities to help you reach your goalsin the industry.  

You will be a person who can uphold our values, exercisespatience and resilience and exhibits a nurturing demeanour. We arelooking for individuals who place children first and are motivatedto do what is best for them. 

A typical day in the life of a Support Worker couldinclude:

  • Working as part of a team in a 24/7 residential based care setting, including sleepovers, weekends and weekday shifts. 
  • Building and developing independent living skills.
  • Assisting with household duties.
  • Encouraging achievement of goals.
  • Transporting young people to and from appointments and afterschool activities.
  • Daily care and support.
  • Managing behaviours utilising a Trauma informed model of care.
  • Assisting with engagement in education & extracurricular activities such as sport or art.
  • Supporting connection to family & culture.
  • Utilising support from internal & external specialist services such as Speech Therapists and Behavioural Support Practitioners. 

 We are looking for individuals who candemonstrate the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrate a commitment to the safety of children, young people and people with a disability.
  2. Qualifications in Residential Care, Community Services, Welfare or other related areas. (You may be currently undertaking and/or willing to obtain within the first 12 months of employment).
  3. Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  4. Demonstrated ability to deliver services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma on behaviour and development of children and adults.
  5. Understanding of or experience in implementing therapeutic interventions and behaviour management strategies.
  6. A positive attitude to engaging with children and young people in a nurturing environment under a therapeutic model.
  7. Demonstrated experience in being able to manage duties associated with home management.
  8. The ability to work independently and under limited supervision.
  9. Contribute to the effective operation of the team by supporting colleagues through clear and effective. communication, sharing of appropriate and relevant information and working collaboratively with others.
  10. Willingness and ability to work a flexible roster, including weekends, evenings and sleepovers.
