Here is an exciting chance to help deliver a new project focused on giving youth an opportunity to explore pathways in the music, creative and entrepreneurial industries.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Youth Worker will provide support and high-quality services to young people (10-17 years), ensuring their needs are met as per program aims. The Youth Worker will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the young person experiences client centred and holistic service. The Youth Worker will have specialist knowledge and experience in working within one of the following cohorts – Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, Disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTIQA+.

The program has a specific focus to work with those young people who are at risk of experiencing disadvantage, marginalisation and disengagement with referrals from youth justice, police, schools, child safety and other youth services. This project aims to improve young people’s capability to actively engage in their community through prosocial activities. 

The program will run After School hours, with working hours being 3pm - 8pm, three days per week.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Essential

  • Certificate III in Youth Work or equivalent.
  • Extensive knowledge of the needs and issues facing young people today.
  • Ability to work independently within a team environment
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and liaison skills 
  • Ability to write objective and accurate case notes, case plans and reports.
  • Knowledge of the principles relating to confidentiality and duty of care.
  • Capacity to facilitate group workshops and training experiences. 
  • Current C class driver’s licence
  • Working with Children Suitability Card & Police Check 

Desirable

  • Experience using various types of audio/ visual technology, social media and internet platforms.
  • Experience working in a youth related service with vulnerable and complex young people. 

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with adolescents who are facing issues such as domestic and family violence, sexual abuse, psychiatric illness, homelessness and alcohol and drug abuse.
  2. Proven experience working collaboratively and innovatively with families, staff and services to meet and achieve goals that facilitate safe, stable and nurturing environments for young people
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of practices to engage and assure the cultural safety of clients from a diverse range of backgrounds, including those from an Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or CALD background, or the LGBTIQA+ community.
  4. Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills, including report writing and conflict resolution skills, and a sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  5. Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, Child Safety, Workplace Health and Safety, Discrimination, Privacy and other relevant legislative requirements for this service context.

We develop and deliver programs and services in response to community need. Presently, HBNC manages 30 funded programs that encompass aspects of aged care, family services, diversity and social isolation.
