This position offers an initial contract opportunity through to June 2026, with scope to progress and continue long term. This role is full time hours Monday to Friday.
About the department:
The Program is dedicated to combating the invasive threat posed by fire ants in affected regions. Through meticulous surveillance, targeted eradication strategies, and community engagement, the program works tirelessly to detect and eliminate fire ant colonies. By utilising advanced technology and scientific expertise, the program aims to prevent the spread of fire ants, safeguard ecosystems, protect agricultural interests, and promote public safety. Through a combination of proactive measures and rapid response, the program strives to mitigate the impact of fire ants on both the environment and local communities.

About the Role:
This role goes beyond typical administrative tasks, requiring someone who can adapt quickly to a changing environment and who processes a diverse skill set.
A large part of the role will require extensive data management, whilst also managing contact lists, generating reports and overseeing information collected by the field officers who eradicate fire ant nests.
Interestingly, you will also be responsible for actively participating in campaigns and on the ground engagement that the Fire ant program runs. One campaign in particular would be participating in community engagement event at bunnings, specifically to raise awareness of fire ants and what the department is trying to achieve. This involves regular community engagement and discussing self treatment kits on offer.
In addition you will also participate in regular social media management, promoting the program and its values.
Another aspect of this role will be handling inventory in the warehouse, ensuring there are always enough supplies to support the landowners.
Other Responsibilities are discussed below:
- Administrative tasks including secretariat functions for stakeholder meetings and record keeping.
- Logistics support for fire ant suppression activities delivered by external parties.
- Data entry and basic analysis in support of operational activities. Utilisation of GIS mapping and data management systems
- Respond to and resolve customer queries via internal systems such as CaSES CRM and the Fire Ant Suppression Taskforce inbox.
- Provide technical support to the operational delivery of FAST and its role in assisting the eradication efforts of the National Fire Ant Eradication Program.
Essential Requirements:
- Previous Executive assistant experience would be highly regarded, with a willingness to take on additional non office duties.
- Used to working in a high volume environment.
- Excellent communication skills with previous community engagement experience.
- Experience using excel, power BI and CRM systems.
- Someone who is active as they would be required to move and set up equipment for public engagement events.
- Willingness to come in office 5 days a week.
