Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation (RDAC) was established as an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation in 1992 to improve the social, health and economic outcomes for Aboriginal people. RDAC is a leading provider of primary health care and related social and family support services to Aboriginal people and communities across Gippsland. RDAC’s services are provided at the following locations: wellington Shire and Latrobe Valley. RDAC’s services include: general practice; health assessment and education; dental, audiology; chronic disease management; drug and alcohol counselling; child and family services; child and maternal health; home and Community care; immunisation and vaccinations; social and emotional wellbeing support and counselling; allied health; client transport and corporate services; child care service and Aboriginal Best Start program
About the role
- Based in Morwell VIC 3840
- Part time (30.4 - 4 days per week) Fixed Term 12 months
- Under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunities Act 2010, this is a designated position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Applicants may be required to provide their Confirmation of Aboriginality to support application and considerations for this role.
The new Community Connector initiative offers an enhancement to the current AFPR Response (Response). It will trial approaches to bridge the gap for children and families throughout the Response, by proactively linking them into an enduring network of universal, community and informal supports to improve wellbeing across health, learning, vocation, community and culture. This initiative has developed to as part of the Roadmap for Reform: Strong Families, Safe Children (Roadmap). The Roadmap is the Victorian Government’s blueprint for reform of the child and family system towards earlier intervention and prevention; reducing child vulnerability, neglect and abuse; and supporting children and young people to reach their full potential. It prioritises Aboriginal self-determination; integration of services and Community networks; and the transformation of Culture and practice to drive better outcomes.
The Roadmap delivers a system focused on:
• strengthening communities to better prevent neglect and abuse
• delivering early support to children and families at risk
• keeping more families together through crisis
• securing a better future for children who cannot live at home.
Working in partnership with Queen Elizabeth Centre (QEC) and area FPR Practitioners, the Aboriginal Connector will play a key role in building cultural and Community engagement and connections for Aboriginal children and families connected to the Family Preservation and Reunification Response across Inner Gippsland. This role aims to deliver outcomes aligned with the Roadmap by strengthening family’s capacity for readiness, change, and protective parenting behaviours through;
• Strengthened and positive sense of identity and confidence in connection to culture
• Stronger connection to community.
• Increased participation in cultural and Community events and programs
• Improved connections and relationships to local universal services and groups
• Improved social, emotional, and cultural wellbeing of Aboriginal Children
• Improved and positive sense of identity
• Increased confidence of Response staffs across Inner Gippsland to provide culturally safe and responsive supports
Requirements for the role
- Minimum Diploma in Community Services or relevant field or equivalent experience may be considered
- Current Victorian Working With Children’s Check or ability to obtain
- Satisfactory criminal history check
- Satisfactory pre employment drug & alcohol screening
- Triple vaccination against COVID19
