Job description

The Queen Elizabeth Centre (QEC) is Victoria's largest provider of Residential, Community and Home-based parenting services. With our Residential Early Parenting Centre in Noble Park and Community home-based services across Victoria, we play a special role in providing parenting education and support to thousands of families every year to give their children the best start in life.  QEC is currently undergoing an exciting period of growth and expansion, so this is the best time to come on board!

The role

The Aboriginal Community Connector role will work part time (0.4 FTE) for a 12 month fixed term, based in QEC’s Morwell office and working in partnership with Ramahyuck Wanjana Lidj practioners in Gippsland.  The role will provide support across the Family Preservation, Reunification and Response (FPRR) program with the aim of connecting aboriginal families to community and strengthening relationships with services in the local area by:

  • working closely with the FPRR providers and Ramahyuck Wajana Lidj practitioners to promote engagement with community services and resources, that promote opportunities for employment, education, housing and social participation, to achieve positive outcomes for aboriginal families 
  • supporting and encouraging aboriginal families to become connected to groups (in addition to specific cultural groups) and community activities
  • working with FPRR providers to support families to build practical life skills that promote opportunities for social participation and skill building in an area of interest
  • Utilise evidence informed tools to formulate strengths and needs assessments to create safety and community connection plans

To be considered for this role you will possess:

  • A qualification at Diploma level or higher in either Community Services, Early Childhood Development, Infant Mental Health, Social Work, Enrolled Nurse or similar
  • Experience working with aboriginal families in the health/welfare sector ideally within the early parenting period
  • Prior work experience within the FPRR program desirable but not essential 
  • Understanding of the issues facing aboriginal families experiencing vulnerability in addition to highly developed skills and experience in risk assessment and management
  • Effective communication and networking skills to promote the program
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to meet deadlines and program deliverables

The successful candidate will have access to QEC's Clinical Starter Program which has been designed to support all new clinicians in developing skills and building knowledge to support them in their role. This program offers new starters ongoing support which includes one on one support from our learning team, a QEC program handbook, extensive induction and orientation program as well as scheduled clinical training.
