About the Opportunity
The Aboriginal Health Worker - Youth Health provides flexible, holistic and culturally safe health to Aboriginal clients and the community, to achieve better health outcomes and better access to health services for Aboriginal young people, 12-24 years of age, and their families/carers in South Western Sydney.
The position will support community development and health promotion initiatives that engage young Aboriginal people. Based at the Youth Health Service, this position works within a dedicated multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality care in a dynamic team environment, providing health promotion and health education, intake assessment, and case management.
The candidate will work independently and/or under the supervision and direction of a health professional and within the limits of the Aboriginal Health Worker position description and qualification.

- Relevant health and/or community qualifications and/or experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of the range of factors that have influenced the health status of Aboriginal communities.
- Ability to undertake health/social needs assessments that demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal culture and social issues in relation to health matters; and make referrals to community service providers.
- Understanding of design, delivery and evaluation of health promotion or education programs.
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and autonomously, as well as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, and in partnership with local relevant services.
- Familiarity with and commitment to social justice, community development and harm minimisation principles.
