Outpatient D&A services are located in clinics at the Langton Centre in Surry Hills, St George Hospital in Kogarah, and Caringbah Community Health Centre at Sutherland Hospital. Inpatient D&A services are provided at Sydney Hospital, Prince of Wales, St. George and Sutherland Hospitals.Our goal is to improve health, wellbeing and social outcomes for individuals, families and the community, related to drug and alcohol use.SESLHD D&A strives to be a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, as well as workers. We have Aboriginal identified positions, cultural supervision is available, and we welcome and encourage applicants for this position who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander themselves. The job provides an opportunity to work closely with community and strengthen connections and engagement with healthcare.Our service also strives to provide a safe space for diverse workers, including those who identify as culturally and linguistically diverse, and those from the LGBTQI+ community.The purpose of the role is to plan, coordinate and deliver high quality social work to people attending the SESLHD Drug and Alcohol Service, especially those from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background, consistent with South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.The position provides leadership of the Aboriginal workforce in Drug and Alcohol Services. This includes line management of Aboriginal Health Officers, as well as responsibility for strategic service planning, community engagement, and consultancy.Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.SESLHD is committed to creating a workplace that reflects the diversity of our community.   • Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award, eligibility for membership of the AASW, and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning.
  • Extensive post graduate clinical experience in Aboriginal Health and/or Drug and Alcohol treatment services with demonstrated commitment to harm minimisation philosophies.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level clinical advice, education and support to others in providing service excellence.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes.
  • Demonstrated active participation in developing, implementing and reporting on services.
