Sexual Assault Service Team is recruiting for a Female Aboriginal Health Worker to join the team!The Sexual Health Assault Service (SAS) Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) supports the provision of culturally responsive care to Aboriginal clients accessing Sexual Assault Counselling Services. The position works collaboratively with SAS clinicians to ensure the cultural, therapeutic and psychosocial needs of Aboriginal clients are supported through a holistic approach to service provision. The position will also play a key role in supporting the establishment of relationships with Aboriginal communities and organisations to improve access to Sexual Assault counselling services for Aboriginal people. This will include developing and implementing a range of community-based education, health promotion and prevention projects.Where You'll Be Working

  • This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identify as an Aboriginal person and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).Demonstrated Aboriginality (an applicant's trace is genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discriminations Act 1977).
  • Demonstrated ability to create connections, engagement and collaboration with Aboriginal communities and service providers.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and providing case management/care coordination to children, young people and adults who have complex trauma experiences and/or complex health issues.
  • Knowledge and awareness of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW and how to support its application in a culturally safe way.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics and social context of Sexual Assault and child abuse and its effect on Aboriginal children, their families and communities.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing service networks that enable referral pathways and coordination of service provision.
  • Must possess a valid Australian Drivers Licence (excluding learner driver's licences). If not already in possession, a NSW Drivers Licence must be obtained within 3 months of appointment.
