  • Employment Part time - Term Contract (temporary up to January 2026)
Overview
The Women's & Children's Health Network provides state of the art health care for women, babies, children and young people across South Australia. We are the state's leading provider of specialist care for children with acute and chronic conditions as well as being South Australia's largest maternity and obstetric service, and statewide Maternal Fetal Medicine service.
Our community-based services also reach hundreds of thousands of babies, children and young people, their families and communities across South Australia through our various services and programs in areas such as our Mental Health, Child & Family Health services, Youth Health and Aboriginal Health services.
The Aboriginal Family Birthing Program at the WCH provides antenatal and postnatal care in a culturally sensitive environment, with the support of midwives, doctors, Aboriginal Maternal Infant Care (AMIC) workers, social workers and family support workers.
Ngankita Ngartu is the Kaurna name for this service, which means "caring for Aboriginal women during pregnancy, a program based on Aboriginal Culture Grandmothers Law."

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists within Ngangkita Ngartu to join us Aboriginal Maternal Infant Care Worker (OPS4).
In this role, you will:
  • Work in partnership with Midwives, Obstetric/Medical and multi-disciplinary teams in providing a culturally appropriate, safe, and responsive health care environment
  • Provide care with a primary health care focus including health promotion, education and family planning for all Aboriginal women, women pregnant with Aboriginal babies and their families
  • Provide culturally specific supervision to non-Aboriginal clinical staff and healthcare providers regarding women's business that the activities of Ngangkita Ngartu service intersect with

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Proven experience in the provision of antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal care
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal cultures including kinship systems, family structures, spirituality, faith, cultural values and beliefs, kinship structures, family and community obligations such as Grandmother's Law
  • Ability to effectively communicate and develop safe, respectful relationships with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal persons whilst maintaining a high degree of privacy and confidentiality.
