ABOUT BOORLOO BIDEE MIA (BBM)
Boorloo Bidee Mia (BBM) provides a low-threshold and change accommodation option for people who have been sleeping rough. It provides 66 rooms, a range of common areas, and ongoing, responsive support available to all residents for the duration of their stay. A key focus of the service is to support Aboriginal people experiencing homelessness.
BBM is funded by Department of Communities, and is delivered in partnership by Wungening Aboriginal Corporation (Wungening) and Noongar Mia Mia. BBM is committed to working with people through a culturally informed approach. Supports are tailored to develop daily living skills, maintain accommodation, and participate in a thriving BBM community. Additional embedded and visiting services support people to address challenges such as alcohol and other drug use, family and domestic violence, social and emotional wellbeing, and physical health challenges.
ABOUT THE ROLES
As part of the BBM Accommodation Support Team, the BBM Accommodation Support Worker roles report to the BBM Accommodation Team Leader.
These roles are rostered across a 24/7 roster of three shifts. The shifts are morning, afternoon, and night and directed through the BBM Task Allocation Meetings.
Please note: The night shift is focused on maintaining safety, access control, BBM resident enquiries and supports, as well as observing and reporting any challenges or opportunities for improvement, supported by the Wungening On-call Team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Participate in BBM Task Allocation Meetings.
- Provide culturally appropriate holistic support to BBM residents.
- Support the BBM residents to feel welcome, supported, and participate in community activities.
- Supporting BBM residents to maintain their room and common areas.
- Supporting BBM resident safety through access control processes and managing challenging behaviours.
- Work collaboratively and proactively the BBM Team to support residents to achieve their goals, promote participation in community activities, and prevent challenges to their stay at BBM
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- The ability to work in a manner consistent with Wungening Values.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, protocols, boundaries, and experience working within the Aboriginal community.
- Ability to to communicate effectively with a range of people from culturally and linguistically (CALD) diverse backgrounds, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Qualifications in a relevant discipline eg. Welfare, Community Services, Social Work or Counselling or relevant work experience.
- Motivation to support people to comply with their rights and responsibilities in a residential setting.
- Ability to work with client management systems, including reporting and case note experience.
- A great attitude and curiosity to learn new ways of working.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the team.
- Sound computer skills, experience working with MS Office programs and data management systems
- Willingness to undertake personal and professional development.
