A vacancy has opened for the position of Accountant.
This immediate start, full time position is based in Rossmoyne, Perth
General Description of the Role
The Accountant is expected to be a vital contributor to the success of the Company in reaching its organisational goals by:
- Assisting the Financial Controller in the management of the Company’s available resources in accordance with the Board of Directors’ strategy
- Contributing to the professional financial guidance to management
- Contributing to the organisational compliance with financial reporting requirements
- Contributing to coverage during times of absence of the Financial Controller
Responsibilities include:
- Through experience, gain a deep understanding of financial management within the Aged Care industry
- Provide supervision and leadership to the Accounts Clerk
- Review and approve source documents, such as invoices and cheques, substantiating business transactions
- Verify and post details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and total accounts to ledgers or computer spreadsheets and databases
- Support the Accounts Clerk in investigate problems that vendors or purchasing agents have with obtaining payment for bills
- Support the Accounts Clerk in calculating and recording charges, refunds, cost of lost or damaged goods, freight charges, rentals, and similar items
- Direct the Accounts Clerk in the preparation of vouchers, invoices, cheques, account statements, reports, and other records, and review for accuracy
- Oversee / complete month-end processes up to balance sheet, including reconcile general ledger accounts with various registers, including interest on Bonds and Refundable Accommodation Deposits, Independent Living Units equity provision, accrued expenses reconciliation and staff quarterly leave provisions.
- Extract general ledger information
- Preparation of monthly operating statements.
- Reconcile bank statements
- Reconcile various State and Commonwealth funding amounts
- Maintain the Residential Aged Care bonds (RADs/DAPs etc.) register, in accordance with the Prudential Requirements of the Aged Care Act
- Monitor loans and accounts payable and receivable to ensure that payments are up to date
- Assist employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services
- Maintain creditors contract files
- Monthly preparation of Departmental reports
- Prepare various ad-hoc reports as requested including Aged Care Financial Performance Quarterly Benchmarking Survey
- Programming of security software to provide access within the facility for staff, visitors and resident’s as directed
- Any other responsibilities as delegated by the Chief Executive Officer and Financial Controller
- Prepare statutory compliance reports for the Australian Taxation Office. (GST, PAYG, FBT and BAS)
- Cooperate with and assist external auditors to meet regulatory requirements
- Providing coverage during times of absence of the Accounts Clerk
- Providing assistance to Payroll functions during times of absence of the Human Resources Manager.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- A degree in business or accounting
- Completion of Certified Practising Accountant or Chartered Accountant program
- Willingness to work within the Christian ethos of Adventist Care

- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organisational skills
- Good self-initiative and time management skills
- Intermediate MS Office skills
- Professional approach to sensitive and confidential information

- Ability to contribute to the construction and monitoring of complex reports
- C Class Drivers Licence
Desirable
- Previous accounting officer experience in the aged care sector or a customer service orientated organisation

Normal Working hours in the administration office will be
Monday to Thursday 08:30 – 17:00
Friday 08:30 – 15:00
Full Time – 38 hours per week
