Acute Services Nurse Unit Manager
Position Status: Full Time 80hrs per fortnight with ADO (1.0 EFT)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent;
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate, with at least 5 years post registration experience;
About you:
The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is a key member of the extended leadership team at Yarrawonga Health within the Clinical Services program. The role provides support, vision, and leadership to successfully develop and manage the Acute Ward and Urgent Care in accordance with National Standards, legislative requirements, whilst facilitating Yarrawonga Health strategic goals, vision and values.
About the position:
The Yarrawonga Health Acute Service is a mixed ward service consisting of a 21 -bed unit, Urgent Care Centre (UCC), Dialysis Unit, and two TCP Beds.
The NUM is accountable for the provision of high quality, competent, compassionate, and efficient care to all patients, and their families through effective leadership of the team.
This role is responsible for the management of Acute Unit, Urgent Care, and Dialysis through clinical practice supervision, resource management, financial planning and budget management. These responsibilities are delivered within a framework of continuous quality improvement whilst working collaboratively with the executive team to deliver their goals, the After-Hours Coordinators, and their peer group.
Key Selection Criteria:
Essential
- Demonstrated competence in the relevant area of nursing practice in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice;
- Participative management style. Capacity to lead, foster and develop a working environment which actively promotes a collaborative performance and values-based culture;
- Highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution relationship building, decision making and adaptability.
- Experienced in the supervision of student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proven ability to prioritize workload and meet set timelines.
- Ability to be creative, innovative and flexible when approaching issues within the healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of Quality Improvement / Accreditation systems as applied to acute care settings.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, industrial agreements, standards, codes, ethics and competency standards.
- Knowledge of contemporary professional nursing and health care issues.
- Understanding rostering principles and relevant EBA provisions.
- Tertiary qualifications in management or working towards same highly desired.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualifications or experience in acute care and/or management;
- Innovative skills in program delivery, particularly in relation to clinical services in a rural environment;
- Experience of financial management including budgetary control;
- Experience of leading a team and managing people effectively to achieve required outcomes and results;
- Demonstrated ability in the facilitation of change management;
- Demonstrated ability to foster a workplace environment that develops staff potential.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and current medical records ensuring documentation meets professional and legal standards;
- Record observations and report any changes in patient condition to the healthcare team;
- Recording any incidents that may occur to all residents;
- Maintaining high levels of confidentiality in align with Yarrawonga Health policies and national legislations.
Communication:
- Establish and maintain effective communication with all other health professionals and support staff, consumers, families, the community and external care providers;
- Relay important information to the supervising healthcare professional.
Infection Control:
- Adhere to infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections within the healthcare facility;
- Maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
Safety:
- Follow safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both patients and staff.
- Identify and report any safety hazards in the healthcare facility
Skills and Abilities:
- Compassion and empathy.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks that may require lifting and manual dexterity.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow protocols and procedures.
