About the role

• The position delivers advanced Orthoptic services to stakeholders/consumers within Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) Ophthalmology Service to achieve excellence in patient care, education, and research. This includes implementing and monitoring operational activities and leading professional governance activities for a small team of Orthoptists.

Knowledge, skills and expertise
Clinical Practice

• Advanced level clinical expertise and high-level capability to apply knowledge and skills independently to offer high quality, evidence based and patient centred Orthoptics services
• Demonstrate an advanced knowledge and skill in using technical Ophthalmology equipment

Communication

• Advanced level communication skills and organisational ability including experience in innovative or alternative models of care and complex multidisciplinary team environments.

Leadership and Management

• Ability to initiate, plan, implement and evaluate improvement initiatives, service models, and clinical practice by demonstrating an excellent understanding of the continuum of care and the organisational provision of multidisciplinary health service.
• Ability to provide strategic and high-level expert advice consistent with role scope to local and state-wide stakeholders.
• Ability to manage workloads, staffing and rostering and to supervise staff and monitor performance and reporting requirements, ensuring safe and sustainable high-quality service outcomes.
• Ability to provide active leadership in the ongoing development of high-level innovative service improvement and research initiatives, including identifying opportunities for expansion
