About the role
Mater's Eat Walk Engage Program currently has an exciting opportunity for an Allied Health Assistant to join the team on a permanent and part-time basis (20 hours per week).
The Eat Walk Engage Program is a multidisciplinary program that improves care for older people in hospital, prevents delirium and promotes recovery.
Salary range: $32.23 - $33.66 (Operational Officer Level 3) per hour plus superannuation + generous salary packaging access up to $15,900
What you'll be doing
The purpose of this role is to contribute to patient care by providing clinical support tasks to increase patient nutrition, cognitive stimulation, mobility and functional independence, as delegated by health professionals participating in the Eat Walk Engage (EWE) program at the Mater Hospital.
In this role you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide best practice care to older patients by:
- Contributing to supportive systems for older inpatients to reduce delirium and functional decline.
- Facilitating engagement in meaningful and cognitively stimulating activity.
- Encouraging and assisting patients to maintain their mobility and physical function while in hospital.
- Supporting patients to maintain nutrition and hydration while in hospital.
- Leading group treatment sessions as delegated by the multi-disciplinary team.
- Providing education on a defined range of topics to patients or groups of patients.
- Adhering to activity reporting processes and contributing to patient records according to organisational guidelines and legal requirements.
- Actively contributing to and communicating with the multi-disciplinary team including attendance at team meetings.
- Contributing to quality improvement activities under the guidance of health professional staff and Eat Walk Engage Program Facilitators.
- Working effectively with our volunteer and pet therapy teams to provide patient-centred interventions.
- Undertaking recommended training and development activities.
To be successful in this role you will have experience in caring for older people. A Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, Health Services or similar is highly desirable.
We are seeking applicants with a compassionate person-centred approach to their work alongside excellent interpersonal skills and the confidence and ability to communicate around delirium and dementia. You will be a proactive, self-driven individual who can work independently on delegated tasks but also seek areas of improvement and ways to expand in your role.
