About the team

In this position of an Application Architect, you will report into the Delivery Manager – Switch and Support. 

The Payments Application Architect role is for a specialist Architect within the Payments domain, responsible for designing IT solutions and services and improving quality across new and existing solution changes and BAU activities.

Key responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include the following but not be limited to:

• Develop and maintain Application Architecture landscape ensuring their completeness (fitness-for-purpose) in terms of adequately addressing Coles’ strategic and core operational needs
• Interacts with architecture team to ensure domain standards and principles are followed
• Assist in the selection of and implementation of new technologies which provide business benefit to the organisation.
• Identify opportunities for IT contribution to business improvement.
• Identify opportunities to improve systems functionality to address business issues
• Participate in implementing best practice method in architecture and design activities to assist maturing the architecture and design practice.
• Participate in the application repository regular assessment and health check
• Deep understanding of payments processes and scheme rules in a retail environment.
• Internal consulting on solution design, data integration and frameworks.
• Ensure breadth of knowledge across the team and no single point sensitive areas
• Promote cross-team and cross-Platform collaboration to ensure solutions are the best outcomes for the Coles Group.

About you and your skills

• Previous systems architecture experience.
• Previous experience in the Retail & Financial Services (Payments) industry
• Extensive experience in designing, constructing and integrating applications.
• Extensive experience in developing and maintaining the application-layer of the enterprise architecture.
• Proven ability to work cohesively with key stakeholders to achieve positive architectural outcomes and to understand stakeholder needs, manage expectations, and maintain positive relationships.
• Ability to assess a business case to propose conceptual solutions, provide order-of-magnitude estimates and identify required enabling technology synergies, dependencies and constraints.
• Proven ability to lead, develop and implement technology architecture and solutions in complex business and technical environments.
• Possess a deep understanding and interest in emerging digital trends.
• Excellent communication at all levels of the business, with the ability to interpret customer or business needs and translate into the application and operational requirements.
• Experience in working in Agile and Waterfall and flexible approach to project methodologies.

Commercial skills and formal qualifications:

• Ability to lead, coach, motivate and mentor others in the use, development and maintenance of the application stack and architecture is essential
• Ability to work systematically, while taking an analytical approach to challenges
• Ability to communicate, influence and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders and team members to achieve outcomes
• Capable of developing and promoting teamwork, being persuasive, approachable and able to self-manage effectively
• A motivated and positive personality who can work well in a collaborative environment
• Ability to build robust relationships with stakeholders to develop trust and ensure reliable and accurate information
• Appropriate tertiary and/or industry experience
