The APS 6Senior Project Officer role supports the project team in the planning, development, approval and delivery of capital facilities and infrastructure projects, with the opportunity for autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work.
The role will be responsible for managing several larger, more complex projects.
The role will provide detailed professional advice in relation to policy, procedures and legislated requirements in relation to complex work, as well as contribute to strategic planning, programming, project management and policy development.
The role requires highly developed program, project, contract and financial management skills, and it will be highly desirable to have experience in the construction industry. The role will also require the supervision and mentoring of more junior staff as a member of a small team.
The additional payment is a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP) which enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA) to some or all of the jobs within a critical occupation(s) or discipline within a workplace. Applicants engaged into a BDCP position must consider the following. BDCPs provide remuneration in addition to the Defence Enterprise Agreement (EA).
This arrangement is subject to meeting eligibility criteria and is subject to annual review. Should your performance fall beyond requirements or the eligibility criteria not be met, your eligibility for the BDCP may be reviewed and ceased. It may also be ceased should you change positions or the requirement for the BDCP is no longer necessary, as determined by Defence. Should the BDCP be ceased you will be advised and your BDCP additional payment will cease.
About our Team
Capital Facilities and Infrastructure Branch are a part of Infrastructure Division. We are seeking highly motivated, proactive self-starters who want to learn and grow in the organisation, as well as the construction industry.
The Branch manages a growing $33 billion portfolio of capital facilities and infrastructure projects for the Department of Defence all over mainland Australia, and in some cases, overseas.
Successful candidates will join a small project team that is responsible for the successful planning, development, approval and delivery of capital infrastructure projects to directly support Defence capability.
Our Ideal Candidate
The Senior Project Officer will require strong people management and leadership skills and extensive skills and experience with stakeholder engagement in relation to complex project issues. You will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve project outcomes.
You will also be required to implement policy, compliance, procedures, business cases and well developed, sound project, contract and financial management skills associated with the planning, development, approval and delivery of capital facilities and infrastructure projects to achieve agreed objectives and outcomes. You will have the opportunity to travel to Defence sites where your assigned projects are being delivered. You will also have a strong desire to work with the construction industry.
The role will have the opportunity to further develop and strengthen your client-side project and contractual management skills, whilst delivering high value, complex projects and programs on Defence bases across Australia. The roles will require well developed oral and written communication and organisational skills to successfully manage and coordinate a range of stakeholders, consultants and contractors, both internal and external to Defence.
