Position Overview

The role of the Team Leader, National Court Support is to lead a team of Court Support Coordinators (across both FCA and FCFCOA), and provide support and oversight to Chambers, Registry staff, IT and the National Operations Team whilst working alongside the Digital Practice Team. 

The Team Leader, National Court Support is required to be abreast of all local and National Court Support processes, in addition to remaining aware of challenges or circumstances unique to particular locations; all while striving for national consistency, where possible and overall process and service delivery improvements. This running knowledge held by the Team Leader, National Court Support enables them to provide consolidated advice or feedback to other divisions of the organization, having regard to best practices and where possible a consistent national approach within the Court Support space. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage, and provide assistance and guidance to the Court Support Coordinators across both the FCA and FCFCOA nationally.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with team members to address challenges, providing suitable solutions, guidance or escalation as required.
  • Training and upskilling of Court Support staff.
  • First point of escalation for Court Support staff or for issues relating to the work conducted in that space.
  • Review and check daily court lists to ensure accuracy and appropriate allocation of resources.
  • Participate or oversee the recruitment and upskilling of Court Officers as required.
  • Work with the Court’s recording and transcription provider to ensure accurate and timely recording of court listings including facilitating or guiding communication between the Court and transcription provider.
  • Maintain working relationships with the Courts AV (Audio Visual) and Support provider in relation to court room technology as well as attending meetings as required.
  • Work with external organisations or third-party providers to maintain working relationships and communication between them and the Court Support Coordinators.
  • Interpret and/or provide reports to the Manager or Director of Court Support & Improvement relating to Court listings and resources.
  • Work in conjunction with the Digital Practice Officers to support chambers, provide guidance, and develop solutions for any listings requiring specialised set ups.
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Security, Sheriff and Marshal to manage the logistical and technical arrangements for high security or novel matters.
  • Create and contribute to the development of Court Support procedures (publishing process, visiting chambers allocation, event support etc.) in relation to both new processes and initiatives as well as the clarification or rectification of existing processes to ensure a nationally consistent approach, where possible. Being mindful to consider specific needs of either locations or the listings.
  • Disperse relevant information and/or resources in a timely manner to Court Support Coordinators and or other relevant staff.
  • Liaise with the chambers of the Chief Justices of the FCA and FCFCOA in relation to requests from other jurisdictions and or external entities regarding use of court facilities. Providing an overview of the current state of the resources and the capacity to accommodate the request. 

Selection Criteria 

  1. Demonstrated staff management, leadership and development experience and the ability to promote a team environment.
  2. Relationship management capacity, including an ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, including judicial officers, as well as strong interpersonal skills, including a proven ability to manage stressful and/or conflict situations in a professional manner, on a continual basis.
  3. Demonstrated sound organisational and problem-solving skills including initiative, the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
  4. Demonstrated ability to perform research and analysis, provide advice on performance and trends and assist with the preparation of reports.
  5. Demonstrated experience as a leader and champion of change including the ability to identify and apply initiatives and process efficiencies.
