About the Agency 

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) are responsible for implementing the world leading National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in Australia since Medicare.  

The NDIA currently supports more than 630,000 NDIS participants with a significant and permanent disability, their families, and carers of those living with disability. The NDIS is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and provide peace of mind for every Australian.  For many Australians in the NDIS this is the first time they receive the disability support they need.

 As an APS4 Planner of the Service Delivery Group your role may include:

  • Working with participants and planning partners to gain over the phone or in person, to enable high-quality planning and evidence-based decision-making. 
  • Working closely with participants and their representatives (families, carers, guardians) to identify both current and future supports, and informal, mainstream and community support options to achieve plan outcomes. 
  • Using key policies, practice guidance and legislation to make funding decisions in relation to participant plans to complement informal, community and mainstream supports. 
  • Liaising with key stakeholders including Partners in the Community to deliver services to participants. 
  • Resolving issues and complaints in relation to participant plans. 
  • Completing administrative and data entry tasks relating to participants. 
  • Contributing to the achievement of key performance indicators, including planning targets. 

This exercise will be used to fill current vacancies and to create an order of merit as future opportunities arise. Our Ideal Candidate

We are searching for candidates who can demonstrate:

  • a positive contemporary attitude to people with disability.
  • adaptable communication and interpersonal skills.
  • the ability to work within a dynamic fast paced environment and work to deadlines/ tight timeframes.
  • high levels of integrity and professionalism to support our values and mission.
  • the ability to apply judgement, knowledge, and limited discretion in interpretating legislation, instructions, guidelines, and procedures to make decisions.

Experience in the disability and/or allied health sector is desirable however is not essential. 

All new starters begin their journey as a NDIA Planner initially completing an eight-week induction program. This guided program is a combination of both on the job training and classroom type learning. The program has been designed for people new to the role and will build understanding and confidence in the processes, the IT system, and the legislation relevant to the planner role, in particular the NDIS Act 2013.
