The Opportunity
Joining the Media and Communications Branch will give you the security of a 6-12-month non-ongoing contract or s26 transfer temporary transfer. In this diverse role, you will provide high level expertise and advice in Media and public affairs to NEMA’s senior leadership, and the offices of the Minister for Emergency Management and the Prime Minister.
- This role will see you further develop your skills and experience in media, speechwriting, crisis communications and engagement, with mentorship and guidance from your senior leaders
- Your work will communicate impactful and important messaging to Australians in times of emergency and crisis
- Develop media strategies, media responses, media releases, media enquiries, talking points and speeches on behalf of the Agency, Minister and Prime Minister
- Undertake media monitoring and reporting while escalating emerging issues to the Media Director
- Assist with the development of proactive media opportunities to promote the work of the Agency
- Provide communications support in fast-paced and rapidly evolving crisis situations
You will have a Degree or Diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism and/or government media experience at the equivalent APS5 or APS6 levels.
You will also have the following skills/capabilities:
- Demonstrated experience/skills in media within state or federal government
- Ability to manage competing priorities, and work within a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to anticipate and prioritise deadlines and timeframes
- 6-12-month non-ongoing contract or S26 temporary transfer
- APS5: $79,375 - $84,859 + 15.4% super
- APS6: $87,793 - $98,660 + 15.4% super
- Flexibility to work from home up to two days per week
- Location: Canberra
- You must hold a baseline security clearance and be willing to obtain an NV1 clearance if required
